amazon logo The best gift you can give expecting parents
I received this book with my first pregnancy and have since given it to every single pregnant friend I know (I buy several at a time and save on shipping.) It is funny, perfectly Dr. Seuss, and fun to read to your thumping belly. Best of all, it is small, colorful, and embodies all the joy and anticipation you feel as you wait on your baby. And because it is Seuss, your older children can read it to their sibling-to-be.

amazon logo Not very cute or interesting
Sure it rhymes, but it was so small a child would not find it stimulating (tiny drawings). Mostly, it just referred to other Seuss books, without telling a story or anything. If you are going to read to a baby in the womb, you have a captive audience. Why not read Shakespeare, Milton or something more educational?

amazon logo The Perfect Baby Shower Gift
Of all the gifts my wife and I received for our first baby, this was undoubtedly the best. Not only did it give me, a first time father, the chance to bond with our son, it gave both of us a great deal to think about as well. Today, a year later, I can't even think about this book without a tear coming to my eyes. I highly recommend it for any parents-to-be, and it truly makes a gift that will last a lifetime.

amazon logo Great for a baby in utero, but......
Not too great for a toddler!!! When I first ordered this book, I thought it was the original one, not one that was to be read in utero. I was also suprised at how tiny the book was.

I got this book AFTER my daughter was born, so I never actually got the chance to read it to her while she was still in the womb. I recently started to read this book to my daughter a few months ago, she was a little over 1 year.

She dosen't seem to enjoy it very much and I think the book is way too long to hold her interest. I also think some of the language and rhyming is a little hard for her to grasp.

My recommendation is that if you want to purchase this book, do it while your baby is in utero and read it to him/her until the birth. After the birth, get the original version.

amazon logo A Must-Have Primer to Dr. Seuss' Fanciful World
My mother gave me this book when I was pregnant with my first child. My husband and I read it frequently to our son (now 3) in utero. I have since purchased it for every expectant parent I know. If you love Dr. Suess, and are expecting, you must have this book.

The book is a short compilation of Dr. Suess favorites. It introduces the newcomer to all the imaginative characters of Dr. Seuss' creative mind. It's also great practice for parents-to-be to get back into the swing of reading aloud. The beauty of the book is in its rhythm and rhyming, which captivate the developing mind of a child. Our son who was read this book in utero is now a book fanatic and constantly makes up rhyming words. I believe this is a direct result of his exposure to this and other Seuss books.

amazon logo By "Cat in the Hat" instead
I was disappointed when I received this in the mail.
I expected this book to be bigger (it is about 2x4) for one and refer to the baby more. Instead, it refers to characters in Dr. Suess books.
Also, this isn't a book I would pick up and read after the baby is born. I would rather read books out loud that I am more likely to continue to read to the baby when it is born, that is benefit to reading in utero anyway.
This is a cute "basket" gift for a shower, but if you are looking for a book to connect with your baby, I would pass on "Oh baby.."

amazon logo Okay for babies in utero, but less so for older kids.
Our kids love Dr. Seuss in general, but this book hasn't been popular. Part of the problem is that many of the concepts are abstract and advanced, and thus difficult for kids ages 2-6 to grasp even with explanations. This is okay if you are reading the book to babies "in utero", as the cover suggests you do, but not for those who've learned to talk. The other problem is that the language, pace, and imagery are not up to the standards established in the earlier Seuss books. It's as if, near the end of Theodore Geisel's life, others were ghost-writing and attempting to imitate his style.

My advice: Stick with Sneetches, Horton, Bartholomew, the Cat in the Hat, Yertle and all the rest, and leave this on the shelf after your kid starts to talk.

amazon logo not the real version - adaptation!
The first thing I noticed about this book was its size - it is very small and not useful! It fits in the palm of my hand. I'm not sure why Amazon sells such a small book - it's kind of deceiving.

Secondly, this isn't even the real version of "oh the places you'll go" ... it's an adaptation from Tish Rabe ABOUT the Dr. Seuss family of books. Think of it as an introduction for baby to the world of Dr. Seuss.

Now I have to buy the real life, real size version of the book. Maybe Amazon should post the book dimensions from now on?

amazon logo Fabulous book for any family to share before baby's arrival!
This book was wonderful while I was pregnant! My husband read to our son every night before bed and as our son grew his responses to his father's voice grew. How amazing it was to see that connection being made before they could even see each other! My son will be one this month and he is still fascinated with books and our voices. This is a great addition to that big pile of pregnancy books you have next to the bed in anticipation of the big day!!

amazon logo Fantastic as well as emotional!
I received this book as a gift from a coworker when I was about 4 months pregnant. I have read it almost daily to my unborn child and I love the feeling it gives me to read it and know that my child is listening! I am almost 6 months pregnant, and with the baby kicking me constantly, I am reminded that he wants to hear his favorite book! I love the creativity within this book, the emotions it brings while reading it, and the idea that my child is reading already! It isn't expensive nor does it take all day to read. Highly recommended!
